DJ M.I.L. (Courtney) was born in Kingston, Jamaica in the West Indies. He emigrated from Jamaica as a very young child and settled in New Jersey with his mother and four siblings. The blending of a Jamaican now living in America paved the way for his duplicitous love of various musical genres and a conscious life.
Upon his entry into high school he discovered his love for sound and music as he snuck away and broke curfew while traveling into nearby New York City to visit the huge and varied club scenes where he dreamed someday he would perform. While in high school, Courtney’s love of music deepened and he developed a strong and pivotal appreciation for Roots Reggae, the music of his native homeland; Jamaica. He studied all aspects of the music from its composition, sounds, vibrations and historiography, which eventually led him to triangulate his three lifelong loves of, sound, music and life (Music Is Life), while in pursuit of his dream to become a DJ and later as an entrepreneur, it was at this time, that Courtney started DJing in 1988 at the tender age of thirteen with his childhood friend (now business partner), DJ Manny Q. The two teamed up to DJ thousands of private events and "house parties" under their mobile DJ Company Loud House Productions' umbrella. They quickly became the go to DJs for high school parties, graduations, backyard socials and even weddings thus giving them the opportunities to practice, hone their skills and develop their craft through humble beginnings. Courtney's love of the sound and music is and has always been the driving force in realizing his DJ talents and subsequent dreams. While attempting to become one with sound and music he traveled back to Jamaica frequently to continue his studies and visit museums, recording studios and some of Jamaica’s reggae icons like the late great Robert Nesta Marley.
Upon graduation of high school, Courtney prepared to enter college in South Jersey at Monmouth University. A transfer after freshman year to Kean University put him closer to New York City and his clientele, he continued to DJ, excelling at booking dances, parties and bigger venues. During the years that followed college graduation, Courtney begins to expand his client base and diversifies his brand by creating a full service DJ Entertainment & Sound Company BME in 2003, that would feature three specific product offerings (that seemed to define what & who Courtney was becoming): DJ Entertainment, Sound Systems & Music Consulting. With an aggressive marketing agenda, that would target fashion & retail in-stores, corporate functions and sporting events, it's at this time that Courtney realizes that a global scope is the critical "next step". College graduation brings him into independent entrepreneurship where he lands big clients such as MTV, Nickelodeon, The National Football League (NFL) and the New York Mets, where he is currently the Game Day DJ at Citi Field.
Courtney is also a Certified Audio & Recording Engineer. He studied & trained at The Recording Connection (an apprenticeship based program). His training was completed at Night Owl Studios New York, NY (where he still works on various recording, mixing and editing projects.)
These days, Courtney edits his own mixes, drops and sets in his production and editing studio.
